FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between branded speakers and Xenon Acoustics-built speakers?

Branded speakers are off-the-shelf products from established manufacturers, built to a fixed spec for a broad market. Xenon Acoustics-built speakers are designed and assembled in-house, using premium drivers and crossover networks selected and tuned specifically for the performance we want to deliver — not built to a mass-market price point.

Why do you use more speakers instead of fewer high-end ones?

A handful of very high-fidelity speakers can sound impressive, but achieving true immersive sound that way gets expensive fast, and it doesn't necessarily reflect how sound behaves in a real room. We've found that a greater number of well-built speakers, accurately positioned around the room, delivers a more even, immersive, and natural sound field — and does it at a more accessible cost than chasing fidelity through fewer, premium units.

Why would I choose a branded speaker over a Xenon-built one?

Branded speakers make sense if you want a specific, recognized name, or if you're integrating into a system built around that brand's ecosystem. We have the ability to install a range of trusted brands for exactly that reason. But if your priority is sound quality and value, our in-house builds — combined with our speaker placement approach — are designed to outperform comparable branded options at the same price.

Will my home theater be cluttered with speakers?

In most cases, no — speakers are fully concealed, whether built into walls, behind acoustically transparent screens, or hidden within surfaces designed to match your room. The one exception is overhead speakers, which occasionally need to remain visible when hiding them would require breaking into the ceiling structure — something we only do when it's structurally practical and worth the trade-off for your space. As for equipment, AVRs and processors are typically housed in cabinets within the room, and for high-end systems, they're often placed in equipment racks located entirely outside the home theater — keeping the space clean, quiet, and free of visible hardware.

What is acoustic treatment, and do I really need it?

Acoustic treatment shapes how sound behaves inside a room — reducing echo, controlling reflections, and improving clarity so what you hear matches what the sound designer intended. Without it, even high-end speakers can sound muddy or harsh, especially in rooms with hard surfaces like glass, tile, or bare walls. If you want your system to perform at its best, acoustic treatment isn't optional — it's part of the system.

What's the difference between acoustic treatment and soundproofing?

They solve different problems. Acoustic treatment improves how sound behaves inside the room — clarity, balance, and detail. Soundproofing controls sound moving between rooms or to the outside, so your home theater doesn't disturb the rest of the house. Most home cinemas benefit from both, but they're addressed separately depending on your goals.

I'm worried acoustic treatment will spoil the look of my room. How do you handle that?

Not if it's done right. We work alongside your interior designer (or ours) to make sure every acoustic solution fits your room's style — from custom fabric finishes to treatment concealed within the architecture. Performance and aesthetics are designed together, not treated as a trade-off."

How much acoustic treatment does a room actually need?

It depends on the room's size, shape, and existing surfaces. A room with hard floors and bare walls needs more treatment than one with carpet, furniture, and curtains. This is something we assess during the design phase — treatment is calculated for your specific space, not applied as a generic package.

What's included in "basic" vs. more advanced acoustic treatment?

Basic treatment typically covers first-reflection points and bass control to clean up the fundamentals. More advanced treatment — used in our Elite and Signature tiers — adds specialized diffusers and absorbers tuned to the room, giving a more precise and immersive result.

Which areas do you serve?

We provide full design, build, and installation services in Edmonton and Calgary. If you're outside these areas, you can still shop our full range of speakers, acoustic treatment, and electronics through our online store — many clients across the region use our products with their own installer, or reach out to us directly to discuss options.

How long does a typical project take?

From initial consultation to final calibration, most projects run 3-4 weeks, depending on complexity, custom-build requirements, and equipment lead times.

What happens after installation — is there support if something goes wrong?

Every project includes a 1-year workmanship warranty, plus manufacturer warranty on components. But our support doesn't end when the warranty does — if something affects the performance of your system down the line, we're always here to help, warranty or not.

For higher-value equipment, we also recommend extended warranty options where available, giving you added peace of mind beyond the standard coverage period.

Do you handle permits or work with other contractors (electricians, builders, home automation integrators)?

Yes — we coordinate directly with your electrician or general contractor when a project is part of a larger build or renovation, and we'll flag any permit requirements upfront.

Our systems are also fully integratable with home automation systems, so if you intend to bring your home cinema into a broader smart home setup, we'll coordinate directly with your automation provider to make sure everything works together seamlessly.

What does pricing for a home cinema start from?

Pricing starts from $23,500 for our Slimline series package — 5 ear-level speakers, 4 overhead speakers, 2 subwoofers (with amplifier), an AVR, 150" premium acoustically transparent screen, projector, media streamer and basic acoustic treatment. This is our entry point into a true home cinema experience, and pricing increases from there based on room size, speaker series, and the level of acoustic treatment you choose.

What's the difference between the Slimline, Elite, and Signature series?

All three tiers follow the same core system — front, overhead, and subwoofer speakers, an AVR or separates, a screen, and a projector — but scale up in performance. Elite and Signature use higher-grade speaker drivers, more speakers for a fuller soundstage, and more advanced acoustic treatment, including specialized diffusers and absorbers. At the Signature level, we also move to separate processors and amplifiers for maximum performance headroom. Which tier is right for you depends on your room, your goals, and how far you want to push the experience.

Can I get a fully custom system?

Yes — our Bespoke tier is for clients who want a home cinema built entirely around their own vision, with no standard configuration as a starting point. This includes custom speaker layouts, room-specific acoustic design, and component selection tailored to your space and goals. Because every bespoke project is different, pricing is determined after a consultation.
